NUS and Imperial College London (Imperial) have announced a new partnership to strengthen research collaborations. The three-year partnership will see the two universities explore cooperation in early-stage research in areas such as health, sustainability, artificial intelligence and the digital economy. The new agreement will help fund exploratory research and see increased mobility and knowledge-sharing of scientists and students between NUS and Imperial.
Research
Ideas, research findings, and real-world results came together in a flurry of intellectual exchanges at the Festival of Ideas 2024 from 16 to 20 September, an event organised by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) to promote dialogue that inspires and shapes solutions to pressing policy issues. Themed “Navigating a World in Crisis: Transforming Governance through Asia”, the event included sessions about artificial intelligence (AI) governance, the current global state of conflict and peace, and Singapore’s policy approach to manpower issues.
Highlights
NUS will soon be launching the new Minor in Visual Cultures in January 2025, the first of its kind among universities in Singapore. Jointly offered by the Department of Communications and New Media and NUS Museum, the interdisciplinary programme delves into how visuals reflect and influence identity, politics and economics, encouraging broad critical thinking across the humanities and scientific fields, and will equip students with skills to understand, critique and ethically use visually-driven media and artefacts in and across myriad fields of study.
Education
To commemorate its 95th anniversary, students and alumni from NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences treated children from Club Rainbow, which supports chronically-ill children and their families, to a day out at Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Park. The Faculty is also organising a FASS95 gala dinner in November where proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go towards helping Club Rainbow’s activities that support chronically-ill children and their families.
